Gout is a metabolic disease that occurs on the basis of abnormal metabolism of purines and compounds. It is characterized by hyperuricemia, recurrent attacks of acute arthritis, deposition of monosodium urate crystais in and around the joints of the extremities, urolithiasis renal and cardiovascular disease. We treated three acute goupty arthritis patients who had severe pain, swelling and redness et al. All patients were treated with Bloodletting and Sopungwhalhyel-tang(Xiaofenghuoxie-tang). Bloodletting were treated on acu-point of complex Palpung(Bafeng) and Hyenjong(Xuanzhong) point. In the all case, symptoms(pain, swelling and redness et al) had been improved. According to the above result, it is possibly suggested that bloodletting had a therapeutic effect on recovery of acute gouty arthritis.
